How Rock Revolution Will Work with Competitor’s Drums

Date August 25, 2008

Konami’s rhythm game will adapt to how many inputs a drum controller has.

So we know common sense has at last broken through the barrier of insanity, and all music game peripherals will be compatible with all music games. But this raises an interesting question: How will Konami’s Rock Revolution — a game designed for their 7-input drum kit — work with Rock Band’s 4-input drum controller, or Guitar Hero World Tour’s 5-input apparatus? The answer, actually, is quite simple: Rock Revolution will automatically adapt to whatever controller you’re using.

As Joystiq reports, playing Rock Revolution with either Rock Band’s or Guitar Hero’s drum pads will cause the game to "reconfigure" the notes it sends to the player. For instance, if you play with the Rock Band set, the game will only send you four lines of notes, but if you play with Guitar Hero’s, it’ll send five. Konami also expects that their own drum kit will work with Guitar Hero and Rock Band once a patch is released after the games are launched.
